Special Practice Responsibilities
Dr Berkeley is an Anatomic Pathologist, currently Head of Anatomical Pathology, Timaru Hospital.
He is a graduate of Otago University. He was appointed Lecturer in Neuropathology at the Institute of Neurological Sciences at Glasgow, and Lecturer in Pathology at the University of Glasgow (1973), Senior Lecturer in Pathology, University of Otago (1976), Pathologist in Charge of Surgical Pathology and Cytology, Dunedin Public Hospital (1978). Prior to taking up the appointment in Timaru, he was appointed to Medlab South as Head of Anatomical Pathology in 1996.
He was Senior Pathologist for the Otago-Southland Pilot Breast Screening programme. He is a trained Neuropathologist and was Neuropathologist for Otago 1977-1995. He has special interests in Renal Pathology (kidney biopsies) and Oncology including lymphomata.
Currently Br Berkeley undertakes all hospital pathology consultations at Timaru Hospital and forensic and Coroner’s Pathology for South Canterbury, Mid Canterbury (Ashburton) and North Otago (Oamaru).
