Special Practice Responsibilities
Dr Liz Roberts joined the anatomical pathology team at Nelson Hospital in 2000. She obtained her Bachelor of Medical Science from Otago in 1989 after a year of research work at the Welcome Institute on the role of bacterial peptides in inflammatory bowel disease. Liz spent her intern elective in Nottingham working with Drs Elston, Ellis and Poller on ductal carcinoma in situ. After graduating MB ChB (with distinction) in 1991 she spent a year as a House Surgeon in Auckland followed by a year in Tauranga. She returned to Auckland as an anatomical pathology registrar and then a further two years as a resident in the USA, one year at the Oregon Health Sciences Institute and one year at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre in Boston. Liz obtained her Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists in 1999. Liz works part time (0.6) and her special interest, within the general material that is received in Nelson, is breast pathology.
